"We are Cyborg counsciousness. Cyborg salvation. Cyborg happiness. Cyborg truth. And our name is ORN Faust."

- Faust -

Faust (ファウスト Fausto?), also known as ORN Faust (オーン ファウスト Ōn Fausto) is one of the main antagonists in the Thunder Force series, appearing since Thunder Force IV.

Thunder Force IV[]

Faust is the enigmatic leader of Vios, acting as a third party in the conflict between the Galactic Federation and the ORN Empire. Faust's origins are unknown, though it is speculated it was originally created by the ORN Empire to serve as an enforcer before gaining independence. Its true form is that of a floating orb, capable of piloting different robotic bodies and even using mimicry to imitate its opponent's technology.

After Khaos' initial defeat, Faust gathers the remaining ORN forces into Vios and increases its military strength, launching various attacks against the Galaxy Federation. The Galactic Federation sends their Fire LEO-04 "Rynex" to fight the Vios forces, eventually destroying their battleship. Faust (who controls Versus) emerges from it to fight Rynex, and though Rynex was unable to damage it, it retreats after a squadron of Fire LEO-03 "Styx" fighters comes to aid Rynex, as it destroyed them.

After receiving the Thunder CLAW upgrade, Rynex pursues the Vios forces, eventually facing Faust in the Vios Fortress. There, it takes advantage of the massive cannon mounted on the base's entrance to fight Rynex, but this largely backfires due to the Rynex's small size and nimble handling. Rynex destroys the cannon, which explodes, taking the mech Faust controlled with it. After destroying its shuttle form (which contains a reconstructed Khaos), the pilots of Rynex find Faust's plans to launch an attack at a distant planet known as Earth, so they leave a distress call on the ship and ejects, as Rynex is left drifting in space.

Thunder Force VI[]

Sometime later, in the year 2161 A.D., ORN Faust launches an invasion against Earth. Since Earth had just recovered from the battle against the rogue supercomputer Guardian (see Thunder Force V), they were easily overwhelmed by the invaders.

However, scientists pick up strange readings from inside the island of Babel, where the remaining Vasteel technology (created from analyzing Rynex) was locked away, apparently reacting to the presence of ORN Faust. As the scientists enter the island and analyze the remains of Rynex, they find the distress message left by its pilots, so they decide to recreate and "Refine" the Vasteel technology, developing and deploying the RVR-00 "Phoenix" to fight the ORN forces. The Earth fleet defeats the invaders and the Phoenix journeyed to the capital planet of the Galaxy Federation, joining forces with them to fight the ORN Empire.

Faust intercepts the Phoenix and the Federation fleet, but as it is apparently destroyed, its glowing core draws metal pieces into it, turning it into "Vasteel Nocht", ORN Empire's oversized replicas of the Styx, Rynex and the RVR-01 "Gauntlet". After the three replicas are destroyed, Faust attempts one last ditch move by merging itself with the Phoenix, though this ends backfiring as it was overcome by the Guardian's Heart core in the ship, causing it to transform into the new Syrinx ship.

Trivia[]

  • In Thunder Force VI, Faust's demise differs depending on which ship is used by the player. If it is defeated by the RVR-00 "Phoenix", its core will merge with it, forming the Vasteel/ORN/Fire LEO hybrid starfighter "Syrinx". Using either Rynex-R or Syrinx, ORN Faust's core is destroyed along with Vasteel Nocht.
